ISO 9001 certification. Real added value or just a mandatory exercise?
EuroQ has passed this year’s ISO 9001:2015 surveillance audit without any non-conformities. Join us in taking a look at the impact of the standard on our daily business processes and an outlook on the planned new requirements of ISO 9001:2026.
Audit-compliant quality management in everyday project work
Passing the surveillance audit for the ISO 9001 certification shows once again that our processes are stable, meet the requirements of the standard, and ensure quality in our daily business.
For our customers, this means that quality assurance, testing, and other services are carried out on a basis that is as robust in every ISO audit as it is in day-to-day business.
ISO 9001 quality management as a tool for efficiency and stability
In many companies, ISO 9001 certification is still seen as a compulsory exercise. As a result, its full potential remains untapped in many companies. Instead of being treated as a strategic tool, it is treated as a formal obligation. If this is the case, it results in effort and costs year after year without any discernible benefit.
We see this as a good lever for combining process reliability and economic efficiency. Consistently implemented quality management reveals where interfaces break down, coordination stalls, or duplication of work occurs. This transparency creates the basis for securing processes, accelerating decisions, and reducing costs.
ISO 9001 sets the right framework
Quality management describes the control and improvement of processes at the organizational level. Quality assurance is more operationally oriented and includes measures such as tests, measurements, approvals, etc.
A robust quality management system according to ISO 9001 combines both levels. The focus is on creating the right strategic framework conditions from the outset, which serve as guidelines for operational processes.
In economically challenging times, this preventive approach can become a decisive factor for performance and delivery reliability.
Is ISO 9001:2015 a tool for economic optimization?
We believe so, because it provides clear methodologies for this purpose. In practice, we see that defined roles, a risk-based mindset, standardized supplier evaluations, and transparent communication processes lead to robust procedures. This applies not only to production areas. Administrative processes can also be made more efficient through the management system.
A structured QM system reveals where coordination is stalling or decisions are being made too late. This transparency is the basis for targeted improvements at our company. It is therefore not at odds with economic activity, but rather provides valuable support when implemented correctly.
A good example: residents. Your QMS at the customer’s site
Resident and Supplier Representative activities place special demands on quality management. Our residents represent suppliers directly to their customers and must respond quickly and systematically to quality deviations.
Example: A component shows abnormalities on the line. Our resident on site must be able to immediately assess whether re-sorting is sufficient or whether further measures are necessary. The absolute goal: prevent delays before they spread throughout the supply chain. In doing so, our resident works according to clear guidelines from our own EuroQ QMS, even when he is operating within the customer’s system.
This is based on access to current test plans, documented escalation paths, and coordinated communication channels. Communication between the resident, supplier, customer, and his own EuroQ team takes place via clearly defined interfaces.
Here, too, the DIN standard creates transparency, security, and efficiency. It brings structure to complex processes without losing the necessary flexibility. This clear structure enables our resident to intervene quickly and often preventively before quality problems escalate, ensuring fast solutions without lengthy coordination processes.
ISO 9001:2026. New requirements in view at an early stage
The revision of ISO 9001 is in preparation and is expected to be published in 2026. According to the current draft, opportunity and risk management will be more clearly structured and the corporate environment will be systematically evaluated, from climate and IT to personnel, knowledge, and portfolio.
For companies, this means that external influences must be documented more thoroughly in the future and backed up with measures. The result is a greater emphasis on the resilience of the entire system.
